| Description: | You'll want to be in Denton for the Silver Anniversary homecoming reunion and storytelling celebration, March 11-14, 2010, showcasing 25 past Tejas featured tellers. For starters, you'll hear the likes of Jeannine Pasini Beekman, DeCee Cornish, Elizabeth Ellis, Tom McDermott, Gayle Ross, Barbara McBride Smith, and Tim Tingle. And more to come! The weekend will be a non-stop round of story concerts, story swaps, workshops, a master class, social and professional networking, and shopping opportunities in the gift shop. Kicking off the festival will be a nostalgic look back in story and song at some of the truly sterling moments in the 25-year history of the event. Remembering those who have gone before and recollecting bits of the festival's own oral history seems a fitting way to launch the 2010 celebration of the spoken word. Recognizing that the youth are the future for the art form, a special youth strand will be an option for Saturday at the festival, starting with a youth concert that morning, followed by a youth teller workshop. In addition, a concert designed especially for families is in the Saturday line-up. Puppets and stories and songs, oh my! Opposite those will be programs such as "conversations" with some of the nationally-recognized tellers and other sessions for grown-ups. There will be something for everyone! On both Friday and Saturday, a number of workshops will cover a range of topics for those who want to learn more about the art and craft of storytelling. A list of presenters and details will follow. In addition, one of the featured tellers will offer a master class on Sunday morning for those who would like a more in-depth session. NEW LOCATION THIS YEAR: Denton Civic Center Festival Hours: Thursday, March 11: 7 pm - 9 pm Friday, March 12: 8:30 am - 10 pm Saturday, March 13: 8:30 am - 10 pm Sunday, March 14: 8:30 am - 12 noon EVENING CONCERTS: For those who can't take in the whole festival from morning 'til night, the evening concerts on Friday and Saturday will offer at least a taste, and a rich one at that, of the power, the magic, the downright fun of storytelling. SCHOOL OUTREACH: The 25 featured tellers will be taking stories to Denton-area schools and to preschool groups during the day Friday as part of festival outreach.
