Description:

From Lake Whitney Pioneer Days Website:

Downtown Whitney streets close to all but pedestrian traffic for the largest festival in Whitney. Pioneer Days was started over 35 years ago, and it now attracts over 10,000 people.

The carnival opens on Friday night. Carnival rides, pony rides, and games of skill entertain the young and young-at-heart.

On Saturday morning, the rest of the festival gets underway. Hundreds of booths are setup throughout the downtown area. Arts & crafts are abundant, along with home and yard dcor items, and toys for the kids. There's a plant sale, a book sale, wine-tasting, and health & fitness exhibits. Food booths feature typical festival food, like funnel cakes, BBQ, and burgers, and all proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations.

Live entertainment is featured on the main stage area. Dancers, musicians, singers, and gymnasts perform throughout the day, entertaining the crowd with their talents.

A 5K Fun Run entices participants early on Saturday morning.

There are photo contests for "Beautiful Babies" and for pets. Visitors can vote for their favorites in each of these categories.

The highlight of the afternoon is the parade, the largest in Central Texas with over 1,000 people participating. Marching bands, classic cars, horses and riders, decorated floats, and beauty queens can all be seen along the route lined with visitors.

In the evening, a street dance takes over the downtown area. Tickets are sold at the gate, and the band selected to perform plays a range of music. Underneath the Texas stars, it's the perfect way to end the day's activities.
