Description: | From Ole Tyme Days Festival Website: The festival was first established in 1993 in Dayton, Texas to promote our richly historic town for the enjoyment of future generations. The city of Dayton is 11 square miles of scenic Texas land located on US90 6 miles West of the City of Liberty in Southwest Liberty County. We are more than just neighbors with Liberty; we were actually born from our football rival. Liberty was founded in 1831 and was originally part of a 4 league Mexican Land Grant appropriated for the capital of Santisima Trinidad de la Libertad; which was later known as Liberty and West Liberty respectively. The Trinity separated the two, with Liberty on the east bank and West Liberty located atop Liberty Hill 3 miles from the west bank. In 1854, we became known as Day's Town after one of our most historical citizens, Mr. I.C.Day who was a wealthy cattlemen and land owner who lived just south of town on the Munson League. Only later to become the flagstop of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad which was completed in 1860 and renamed in several ways for the next twenty years; names like Days Town, Days Station and Dayton Station. The Post Office was established in the name of Dayton in 1877, but it did not officially become known as Dayton until sometime in the mid-1880s. We have had several local celebrities that have gone on the make Dayton very proud, such as former Texas Governor, Marion Price Daniel, Sr, former Governor of the US Territory of Guam, Bill Daniel, and the Green Bay Packers' Fullback, Aaron Ripkowski.
